Favourite holiday destination: Anywhere the fishing is good.
Toughest competitor: David Foster would have to rank as the toughest.
Favourite place to compete: Lumberjack World Championships, Hayward, Wisconsin, USA.
Favourite Chainsaw: STIHL MS660 (or my hotsaw when it is running well)
Favourite Axe: Any axe that?s cutting really well.
Proudest sporting moment: Breaking the world record, and winning the 375mm standing world championship at the royal Easter show in Sydney in 1997.
Most disappointing sporting moment: Wood chopping is full of disappointments. Any time I do not perform to the best of my abilities I am disappointed.
What do you consider your best achievement? Being a member of the New Zealand team that won 3-0 against Australia in 1997.
What is the single most proud moment in your career? Winning the World Championship Jack and Jill with my wife Karmyn.
What are your goals for the new season? Stay injury free and compete to the best of my ability.
What are you?re future goals and dreams in your sport? Wood chopping is a great sport, and I believe that I am very fortunate to be able to travel the world competing. I hope to see the sport grow and I would like to do what I can to promote the sport and get more people involved in it.
What is involved in your typical training week (from Mon ? Sun)?

Out of competition: I don?t really have a set routine. I adjust to how my body is feeling. I would normally chop and saw at least 2 days a week, 2 hours a day. I would also run, skip or row for cardio twice a week.

In Competition: Most competitions are on weekends so I would normally cut for 3 days (Mon-Tues-Wed) for 3 hours, and then rest for 2 days before competing.
What are some training tips that you would give to younger athletes? Cut as many logs as you can. It?s the only way to become better at this sport
Are you very strict on nutritional aspects (do you eat lots/little of certain foods)? I am not very strict with my diet. I try to eat a healthy variety of foods and limit my intake of fat.
What do you do for recovery after a race/event/competition? There isn?t anything in particular that I do for recovery apart from rest, and make plans for the next contest.
What are your favourite hobbies (what do you enjoy doing in your spare time)? I enjoy fishing and will go out as often as I can.
Other interesting points:

I am a right-hander who chops as a leftie because it lets the right hand guide the axe. I know a lot of people who don't agree with my theory though.
Strange moment:

Coming second in a handicap chop where the winner got such a start, he'd finished before I was allowed to start.
